Sometimes I have even surprised myself how I have managed to keep The Otaku’s Study, once known as Sam’s Anime Study running for so long, especially considering that over the last few months I have pushed out on average something like 200ish articles per month without any external assistance and despite a rather hectic work schedule I do like to think that what I have produced is of a somewhat decent quality.
However, I have actually been wondering why I started the site in the first place, and after going through my thoughts and limited writings I had back in the day… come up to this conclusion. At the time I was in Grade 10 of High School, and as every other student was, forced to take English classes which despite having its high points (I loved studying To Kill a Mockingbird and The Crucible), seemed to be more about teaching us the language of Shakespeare and having us as replacements for 20 to 1 or “At the Movies” (Both of which we had to re-enact).
However, after my getting some second term results and finding out that I had received straight C+’s (A trend that actually continued all the way through High School WITH straight C+ grades), I decided it would be fun to try my hands at blogging and hopefully improve my English skills, as that was seemingly dropped in the transition to High School. That and hopefully being able to show my teacher I was able to write damn well… something that I wouldn’t have been able to do until I left High School.
I actually have the site to thank for a lot of things. For example, it gave me the motivation to continue on with Japanese through my last two years of school, and became a critical part of my receiving a decent OP that helped me get into the University degree of my choice. I have always been a gamer but I only had limited experience with anime, having watched few series prior to the sites opening. However while starting with series that other blogs didn’t seem to touch with a 10-foot stick such as Kodomo no Jikan (Which I defend as an extremely interesting psychological anime of childhood development instead of one just to give perverts their jolly’s – Which you can read my comments for HERE) and fluctuating interest until late-last year, I hope it can continue to be an resourceful site for anyone who is after information on what to buy in terms of games and anime…. as there don’t seem to be enough Aussies blogging!
